WOLF CREEK RACE RECAP
USA Skimo National Cup and Colorado Cup #1

The first event of both the USA Skimo National Cup series and Colorado Cup event series went down last weekend at Wolf Creek, a fiercely independent family-owned since 1976 historic Colorado resort in operation since 1936.

That’s one of the reasons that draws me to skimo racing: rediscovering the grassroots, independent, historic, soulful ski resorts, under my own power, and shy away from the cookie-cutter mass-market mainstream ski culture.

We had a half dozen Boulder Skimo members out at the Vertical race on Friday evening in dumping snow conditions, then the Individual race on a bluebird powder day with epicly perfect skintracks and untouched descends on Saturday, and Week 5 of Early-Season on Sunday with a few diehards enjoying the deep snow with no race pressure.

The racing community is awesome, mostly for the shared memories and the people: don’t miss the next one!

Although we’re all itching to get on snow, there’s no rush! It’s a long 4 months to get after it. We’ll be at most of the Colorado Cup series, some of the National Cup series within driving distance, and the local mid-week race series.

Dr. Rudolph been a skier her whole life, and got into touring and skimo while doing her medical residency training in Utah. She played lacrosse at CU Boulder many years ago and made her way back to Boulder as a family for the love of the community.

She currently practices sports medicine at Boulder Biologics (at the Boulder Community Hospital campus on Foothills and Arapahoe) as a dual board-certified Doctor in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

Dr Rudolph is happy to chat with Boulder Skimo members about sports & overuse injuries, and is stoked to be supporting the Boulder Skimo Youth Program (coming soon…).

As a Boulder native, Ryan Scott, Managing Partner of the Hyphen Group at milehimodern and a former US Ski Team World Cup Nordic Ski racer and NCAA All-American, has endurance sports in his blood, and is excited to be the first supporter of the Boulder Skimo Club.
