First Rise & Shine
Arapahoe Basin Race

This Tuesday, November 9
(7 AM)

Time to frantically dig up those skins from wherever you hid them (?!) over the sweltering Summer months, and get your transitions on! First race of the season is almost comical, as it’s often the first time skinning for the season for everyone: come get dizzy on High Noon for a 1hr lap-aton and practice your straight-lining (max speed challenge?!).

The whole series has actually been announced already, with routes too! Check it out here.

The Tune Up at Full Cycle

Come meet fellow Boulder uphill skiers at The Tune Up at Full Cycle, where with with many beers in hand will go over what the heck skimo is, what gear you need, where and when can you do it locally safely, what the race season is shaping up to be, training opportunities with the club, avy awareness as it relates to skimo, and lengthy philosophical discussions about pole lengths…

Doug Stenclik of Cripple Creek Backcountry (the leading skimo retailer in the US), Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup, and Wild Snow, will be at the event with gear to share the skimo gospel from over 15 years in the business (check out his hilarious Totally Deep Podcast).

We’re also trying to line up more of the many neighboring local ski brands’ participation to truly make it a big community event…

Come practice your transitions with our shotski competition!

Davide’s First SkiMo Race: 2019 Breckenridge Five Peaks

On the Totally Deep Podcast #76

What I love about SkiMo is its grassroots, laid back, yet brutally fearless and completely NUTS approach to racing, which is SO refreshing in what the world of endurance sports has become.

Although I had skinned on my dad’s setup occasionally during my ski racing days in my youth in Italy, I found skimo in the US in 2019 after becoming increasingly frustrated with the rigidity and robotic nature of what triathlon had become in my 6 years as a professional in the sport.

I raced the 2019 Five Peaks Ski Mountaineering team race with my buddy and former ITU triathlon Olympic hopeful, John O’Neill, and I thought it was the CRAZIEST thing ever, racing full gas up and down five of Breck’s highest mountains (three 13k feet and two 12k feet summits), across 13 miles and 7k+ feet of up (and down!).

I was truly having the time of my life, but Doug had other thoughts… :) Listen to the podcast. We became friends after and actually raced the Aspen Power of Four team race together for the last 2 years.

The Boulder SkiMo Club is born from the stoke of Davide Giardini, who combines a decade of FIS alpine ski racing in the heart of the Dolomites of Italy with 6 years of professional triathlon racing around the globe. Davide is excited to bringing the Boulder SkiMo community together, growing the sport’s participation locally in particular amongst youths, and helping foster the United States Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA) in light of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
