DOJO CHALLENGE + UPHILL ACCESS + RETRO DAY TODAY NOON AT ELDORA

Eldora has a party scheduled for tomorrow! The DoJo Memorial Race is a costume low-key race to remember the life of Joe Despres and fundraise for CAIC. Uphill access (on a Sunday!) is included with the entry. The descend is on the West Ridge, which is epic skiing. Retro Day festivities are planned as well. Music, racing, costumes, drinks, prizes, should be a good time! La Sportiva will be in attendance with games and swag, but no demos unfortunately this time. Check out last year’s recap.

TELLURANDO RECAP

A constant theme of why I enjoy ski mountaineering racing is the fact that it takes me to some of the most iconic ski places of Colorado. In this case, racing the Tellurando, the longest & steepest ski mountaineering individual race format in the US, and 'one of the more technical & exciting ski mountaineering races in the country'.

The race tackles 21 miles (35km) in distance across 11.5k feet of positive elevation gain, with the highlight being summiting and skiing off Palmyra Peak at 13k feet, starting from downtown Telluride.

I love racing because it lets me explore the mountains in a way I wouldn’t otherwise, pushing myself, in company of skilled likeminded people, to then reminisce about the crazy day skiing UP & DOWN mountains over a beer.

HOW TO SKI TOUR: EPISODE 4
FINDING COMMUNITY

In the fourth episode of my “How to Ski Tour” video series for La Sportiva, I wanted to capture all aspects of why I am passionate about ski mountaineering racing, which you can get a taste of right here in our own backyard in Boulder.

I love these mid-week races because of the camaraderie and community around it, and the fitness and skills boost to then tackle bigger weekend outings.

You can find earlier episodes below, and stay tuned for Episode 5 (powder skiing) and Episode 6 (spring skiing):

  • Episode 3 - Ski Touring Basics,

  • Episode 2 - A Bike to Run Mountain Adventure,

  • Episode 1 - Running Up a 13er to Get Ready for Ski Season

This project has been a huge endeavor this past winter, to further push my goal of making ski touring more accessible and introduce more endurance athletes to it.

’d appreciate your like or comment if you enjoyed it!
